Crispy Calamari with Spicy Aioli


  1. Pour enough oil into a heavy large saucepan to reach the depth of 3 inches.
  2. Heat over medium heat to 375˚ degrees F.
  3. Mix the flour, zest, cayenne, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  4. Working in small batches, toss the squid and pepperoncini into the flour mixture to coat.
  5. Carefully add the squid to the oil and fry until crisp and very pale golden, about 1-2 minutes per batch.
  6. Using tongs or a slotted spoon, transfer the fried calamari to a paper-towel lined plate to drain.
  7.  Place the fried calamari and lime wedges on a clean plate, sprinkle with salt and serve with spicy aioli.

Spicy Aioli

  1. ½ cup prepared or homemade mayo
  2. 1 tablespoon lime juice
  3. 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  4. 1 tablespoon Sriracha
  5. 1 garlic clove, minced

Whisk together all ingredients and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
